Advice, Tips and Guidance

  • High Gloss Paints- These are the most durable and easiest to clean. Generally used for Doors, Windows, Skirting boards, Cupboard doors, Balustrade, Bannisters.
  • Satin Paints- Has a pleasing softer sheen and velvet in appearance. It's easy to clean, making it an excellent choice for high traffic areas.
  • Eggshell Paints- Between Satin and Matt paint - think of it as the same finish as an egg shell. This covers small imperfections and is good for wall areas.
  • Matt Paints- Best used for Walls and Ceilings. It carries a strong colour pigment and provides an ideal paint solution coverage for large areas in your home.
  • Exterior Paints- Specialist paints that help protect your property against English Weather.

We are also happy to work closely with our customers to source other specialist paints where required.

Why you should choose your own Painter and Decorator

If you are having building work done, don't let the builder choose or use their own painter and decorator. Builders are driven by profit margin. They will go 'cheap' with regards to labour. That usually means the standard and quality of finish is poor. Ask yourself this... Would you let the builder choose your furniture and interior décor?

The last thing you see, despite how good or bad the builders work is, is the painting and decorating finish. We don't work with builders, simply because in so many cases, they are not interested in a quality finish and prefer to use a low cost option. We work with Interior Designers and direct with home owners.

We serve customers direct, and prefer to sit down and discuss with the customer the different types of paint, finish and colours. Our service is more closely related to consultative interior design, than a ' that'll do' builders attitude.

Get References if you are not sure

If you are hesitant about who you should use for painting and decorating, then ask for customer references. It doesn't matter a jot if they have 10, 20, 30 40 years of experience. Is the standard of their work good? Are they skilled at what they have done? Are they reliable? Are they courteous?

Are they punctual, tidy, respectful of neighbours, family requirements (children, grand parents, home workers etc).

Do they have a professional image, business cards, a WEBSITE. Referrals are always crucial and a vital source of insurance.

Are they a legitimate business, or do they demand cash payments, in which case, you have no come-back if things go wrong? Walk away!

Always bear in mind, that you get what you pay for. No tradesman wants to dedicate their time and effort for cheap pay, whether you demand it, or they quote it.

Colour Psychology

According to 'colour psychologist experts, what colour you choose is not just about the aesthetics. It can influence emotion and behaviour too.

Living Room and Foyer paint colours - Warm tones like reds, yellows, oranges and earth tones like brown and beige often work well in both the living room and foyer, because they're thought to stimulate conversation, according to Kate Smith - a colour consultant in Lorton Va. " you feel the warmth and connection with other people"

Kitchen paint colours - Colour consultants say that if you have fond memories as a child in this space, you might want to recreate the same or similar colour scheme. The most popular choices are blue and white.

However, if there's no particular colour scheme that you remember fondly, Reds and Yellows can be a good choice in the kitchen. But, watch out if you're watching your weight. In addition to stimulating conversation, colour consultants say that red may prompt you to eat more, if only subtly. Restaurant owners have recognised over the years that Red is a good choice for stimulating the appetite.
